Tips on Choosing the Right Air Freshener

Here are a few important tips to consider on selecting the right air freshener

Odors are simply a part of everyday life. For instance, if you have pets in the home, then chances are you have some odor, whether from them being outside and then coming in or having accidents. Then there are children. A baby’s room might have an unpleasant odor from dirty diapers while a teenager’s room might have that "locker room" smell from playing sports. Then, you have odors that come from the bathroom, from cooking in the kitchen, working on cars in the garage, dirty trash, and so on. To get rid of these and other odors, you need a good air freshener.

When shopping around for the right air freshener, you need to consider a number of factors. For instance, you want something that is affordable, easy to use, an air freshener that is safe around children and pets, preferably a product that is biodegradable, and most importantly, one that eliminates odors rather than just masking them. Although you can use commercial air fresheners that will spray a wonderful fragrance in the room, remember that unless the odor is eliminated, you will end up with the odor and fragrance competing, this in itself can be unpleasant.

Therefore, we suggest you look at products that are formulated to neutralize and break down the source of the odor. Some of the best options are organic products, which are made from all natural ingredients. You can find these air fresheners at most organic stores, health food stores, and some grocery stores that have an organic section. The benefit here is that in addition to getting rid of the offensive odor, you are not adding harmful chemicals back into the air that can cause damage to the eyes, throat, and lungs.

The interesting thing is that many commercial air fresheners use ingredients such as formaldehyde, benzyl alcohol, camphor, ethanol, naphthalene, and artificial fragrances. This means instead of cleaning the air, these air fresheners are polluting it. For this reason, we suggest that you read labels, choosing your air freshener products carefully and if possible, go organic.
