Benefits of Natural Air Fresheners

Learn how to make natural air fresheners free of unhealthy chemicals with simple ingredients

Today, more and more people are becoming aware of dangerous toxins found in foods we eat and the air we breathe. Although air fresheners make a room smell nice and clean, unless they are made from natural products, they are actually adding toxins to the air. Therefore, if you want your home to smell nice while avoiding any dangerous chemicals, you should consider all natural products.

Natural air freshener uses only the purest essential oils and plant extracts. With these natural ingredients, instead of just masking odors like those that you get with commercial air fresheners, odors are neutralized while still providing you with a relaxing aromatherapy fragrance. Most natural air fresheners contain no phosphates, butyl ethers, chlorine bleach, or ammonia, all chemicals that can be harmful to the eyes and lungs. Additionally, natural air fresheners are void of dyes and coloring, they are biodegradable, and for people with respiratory problems or allergy sensitivity, the perfect solution.

When looking for natural air freshener, we suggest you pay close attention to the labels. Look for air fresheners made with filtered water, polysorbate, which is derived from sorbitol found in berries and fruits, and then a variety of essential oils. Another option is to make your own natural air freshener. Just keep in mind that unfortunately, even some health food stores will market essential oils that are actually oil blends or synthetic scents. Instead, you want to purchase only pure essential oils, which do cost more but worth the small investment.

Making your own natural air freshener can be done quickly and easily. For instance, buy a four-ounce spray bottle, which can be purchased for a few dollars from most stores. Then, add one tablespoon of regular rubbing alcohol in the bottle, putting the lid on, and shaking vigorously. The reason is that plastics also contain harmful chemicals so you want to sterilize it. After shaking for about one minute, remove the lid, and allow the bottle to air dry a minimum of two hours.
